Fake Fraud Text Alerts Are Out There

Here’s what to watch for:

  • Sending number: Our fraud text alerts will always come from either 37268 or 20733. If it comes from another number, don’t respond! And remember, the bank will never ask you for your password or secure access code.
  • Misspellings: It’s a red flag if words are misspelled. Is it valid if they can’t spell it right?
  • Format: Our fraud texts alerts will be in this format
    • FreeMSG ABC Bank Fraud Center 8772538964 $125.46 on card 1234 at Macy’s. If valid reply YES, fraud NO. To Opt Out, STOP
    • ABC Bank Fraud Alert: Did you attempt transaction on debit card 1234 at Macy’s for $125.46? Reply YES or NO.

One of the benefits of being part of Machias Savings Bank is that you do not have to enroll or opt-in to fraud text alerts. We automatically enroll all of our cardholders so you know right away if your account is potentially compromised.

Fraud text alerts from MSB will always come from either 37268 or 20733. You can save these numbers as 372-68 and 207-33 in your smartphone contacts so you always know when an alert is from us.
What phone number will the text alert go to?
Our system will send the fraud text alert to the first number on a cardholder's file that is text-enabled.
What if I don’t reply to the fraud text alert?
If you have not responded to the fraud text alert within 15 minutes, you will receive a phone call to confirm the transaction was valid. Your card will remain blocked and inactive until you address the alert.
What if the transaction was not fraudulent?
You can reply “YES” to the message, confirming the transaction was valid. We will lift the restriction on your card, and you can continue using it as normal.
